In May 2019, we established our most recent program, A Day of Wellness, which features expert-led interactive workshops and activities focused on self care, self esteem, and reproductive health for expectant and parenting youth in foster care.

Studies show that 58% of young women in foster care experience at least one pregnancy by age 19 and their children have a higher likelihood of entering foster care themselves. To assist in changing this dynamic, we bring in experts who present youth with current strategies and actionable tips to maximize their own mental and physical health and help them be the best parents and people they can be. Past workshops have included Building Healthy Relationships by Rhonda Richards-Smith, LCSW; Reproductive Health and Family Planning by Lashea Brown of Black Women for Wellness; and the Father-Centric Workshop by Lanny Wilson of Repair Families.

Like Raising Baby, A Day of Wellness is hosted by Alliance of Moms and put on by a group of dedicated volunteers coming together to make sure that young moms and dads overcoming hardships are supported and empowered to create resilient families. Our members provide a supportive, loving community to our guests, who are often parenting alone and navigating various stressors in their lives.

One of the most inspiring things about the day is seeing our young moms and dads find support from each other. In the safe space of our intimate workshops, they are able to share their challenges with one another as they learn that they are not alone and that they can be strong for themselves and their babies.
