What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Statistics show that over 40% of babies born to youth in foster care will be detained in the first years of life. The mission of the Alliance of Moms is to help break the intergenerational cycle of babies born to youth in foster care entering the foster care system themselves. We believe that the best way to achieve this mission is through mentorship.

Studies show that mentor intervention in the lives of foster youth often provides the dependable relationship these young parents need to build a positive future for themselves and their children. With holistic support and expertise from the Alliance for Children’s Rights, Alliance of Moms members will be uniquely suited to become consistent and positive role models for foster youth.

Alliance of Moms members will receive rigorous mentorship training to support our young people in both their personal development and on their journey to healthy, positive parenting relationships. Dedicated resources at the Alliance for Children’s Rights will support mentors when referring youth to programs, lawyers, health and education resources as well as on-staff social workers.

We are scheduled to pilot our mentor program in 2017.
