"Growing up in volatile household, cooking was my only escape. When I was alone in the kitchen and the rest of the world went silent, I had a sense of purpose. Food became my creative expression and helped me endure my tough upbringing. It eventually grew into a career that led me to three Michelin 4-star restaurants and a hole-in-the-wall mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant that is now world-renowned. Food opened doors to travel and seeing the world. I learned how other people lived and experienced the joy of serving others. I made a choice that my history would not be my future. You don't have to love cooking but everybody loves to eat. And if we can connect to one another through food, we can change each other's lives."
